With regard to developing countries, they are only cheaper, but their quality is far below ours,` said Hartono. The bank involved in the oil palm replanting of Koperasi Sawit Mandian Jaya is BRI Agro.
Bayu explained that Asian Agri and Sinar Mas were chosen as targets for BPDPKS's replanting programas because they met the specified requirements. `They have filed an application and have completed all requirements,` said Bayu.
Following these two projects, there are seven other projects currently in their final stage. `Around 20 other projects are in the administrative completion process,` said Bayu.

Bayu said, rejuvenating oil palm trees that are 25 years old is very important considering that palm oil has been able to provide prosperity for farmers and the people, in addition to providing very large non-oil and gas foreign exchange. According to him, the old age of oil palm trees has resulted in low productivity so that they must be replaced as soon as possible if we do not want welfare to decline and lose foreign exchange from the plantation sector. `Oil palm is a leading sector that generates the largest foreign exchange for the national economy. However, trees that are over 25 years old need to be rejuvenated to ensure productivity in accordance with industrial needs, the sustainability of the palm oil industry and to improve the welfare of farmers and the community,` said Bayu. It was said, during 2016 there were seven projects in 4,200 hectares of oil palm plantations ready for rejuvenation, most of which are located in South Sumatra and Riau. . To rejuvenate oil palm trees, he said, BPDP is working with local governments, private parties, NGOs, banks and universities which also help manage sustainable oil palm plantations. Asian Agri Managing Director Kelvin Tio said the company and plasma farmers will continue to implement the oil palm rejuvenation program. He said, the partnership between companies, government, and communities has become a good model for the palm oil industry, considering that they have the same goal, namely to improve the welfare of farmers.

Secretary General at Gerbang Tani Idham Arsyad said that the moratorium effort toward oil palm and mining plantation permits was a strategic step which deserved support. He added that both sectors had caused various problems, such as environmental damage, poverty, and agraria conflicts. Nonetheless, Idham stated that another thing that had to be done was to review the existing permits. “Not only [an] oil palm and mining permit moratorium, but a review on existing permits is also necessary,” he said on Tuesday (4/19/2016) in Jakarta. He also stressed the necessity to further involve community figures in the moratorium supervision. Idham added that this is because there were allegedly many loopholes that could be used by certain parties that caused deforestation to take place.

PLN Gets Rp5,000/ liter Subsidy for Purchasing Biodiesel from Pertamina. Managing Director of the Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP), Bayu Krisnamurthi, mentioned that the sales of Pertamina's solar oil have decreased up to 15% within a two-month period.`Pertamina reported that the demand for January and February solar oil has decreased by 15%. The demand for solar oil is declining and the demand for biodiesel is also decreasing,` explained Bayu at his office in Central Jakarta on Monday (4/18/2016).Despite the decline in biodiesel sales, Pertamina is currently penetrating a new market segment, which is PLN. PLN, which used to purchase solar oil, has now switched to biodiesel for its electrical generators.`In the future contracts, the calculation of the decline in solar oil will be balanced out by the new market. PLN is currently facing a dilemma because biodiesel is more expensive than solar oil,` said Bayu.PLN purchases its biodiesel from Pertamina at the same price as solar oil. This is a mandate from Presidential Regulation No. 24 of 2016. With this shift, the Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) is required to cover the price difference from its palm oil fund. The BBM company collects the price difference from BPDP,` explained Bayu.At the very least, BPDP is required to cover the price difference of biodiesel with Pertamina at a rate of nearly Rp 5,000 per liter.`The market price for biodiesel is Rp 8,000. The price of solar oil refers to the average price from the previous three months. Three months ago, the price for solar oil was low, so it is at around Rp 3,000. So, the subsidy is Rp 5,000, which is roughly around Rp 4,700 or Rp 4,600, approaching Rp 5,000,` concluded Bayu.(ang/ang)
