FAO: World food prices decline again in December. The major component in the Rome-based FAO index, cereals, saw its price fall by 1.3 percent, driven by lower wheat and maize quotations. Rice prices were largely unchanged compared to November. Dairy prices declined 1 percent, while meat prices fell by 2.2 percent due to increased pig meat production in Europe and reduced import demand for bovine meat from the United States.The declines were partly offset by a 2.1 percent increase in the index of vegetable oils and a 0.6 percent rise in sugar prices. The index was down 19.1 percent at the end of 2015 compared to a year earlier, FAO said. Prices fell in 10 of the 12 months during the year. Every commodity group saw prices decline in 2015: cereals ended the year 15.4 percent lower, dairy prices dropped 28.5 percent, while meat prices averaged 15.1 lower in 2015, vegetable oils fell by 19 percent and sugar prices declined 21 percent. `Ample supplies in the face of slackening global demand and a strengthening US dollar were the main factors behind the general weakness that dominated food prices,` Abdolreza Abbassian, a senior FAO economist, said in a statement, as quoted by Xinhua. The next update of FAO's index, which is based on the prices of 55 internationally traded food commodities from five major food groups, is expected on 4 February.   (Uu.A026)

CPO Price 6 January: Still Depressed at the Beginning of Trading Following Low Demand. The decline in palm oil trade started with a price of 2,429 ringgits per ton or 7.68 million rupiahs per ton earlier this morning, Wednesday (01/06/2016).
Previously, the price of crude oil closed at 08.04 WIB, i.e. 36.42 dollars per barrel or had weakened to 2.15%. In addition, the price of soybean oil also fell 0.54% to 29.65 dollars per pound at 10.56 WIB.
CPO is still experiencing a decline in derivatives although yesterday (01/05/2016) it had shown strengthening to a level of 2,454 ringgits per ton. The CPO future contract for March 2016, a result of low demand from China in the past two weeks.

Bankrupt, Cepiring Sugar Factory Lays Off All Employees. Lawyers from PT IGN  Banohara explained that they had met with representatives of the staff and with Kunto Nugroho, Interim Kendal Regent. “The layoff letters have already been sent. We implemented the layoffs as of 31 December 2015,” said Banohara on Tuesday (5/01/2015). Banohara added that there are about 360 employees of PT IGN. Given this decision to lay off staff, he has asked all employees to stop coming to work. “We have already paid all four months of salaries that we owed to staff, including December. Meanwhile, salaries for September, October, and November will be transferred into employees’ accounts by 8 January,” he explained. Meanwhile, Sugeng, a representative of the employees of PT IGN Cepiring, stated that the staff are rejecting the layoffs that the company is implementing. The reason is that the layoffs were only implemented unilaterally. He explained that, according to the law, layoffs should involve both parties. “We will continue to come to work. This is because the layoffs that the company is implementing are not in line with procedures,” he said. Sugeng hopes that there can still be good communication between the staff and the management of PT. IGN, in line with the Regent’s wishes. With respect to this matter, Kunto Nugroho, Interim Kendal Regent, said that his office will not interfere with the layoffs of staff being implemented by the management of PT KGN. However, he asked both parties to communicate with each other.“The problem between the employees and the management is only due to a lack of communication. As a result, a lot of unclear information is getting through,” he explained.
