Promoting Specialty Coffee in Dublin. The Indonesian Embassies in Brussels and London are supporting the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Indonesian Specialty Coffee Association (AKSI) in inviting European buyers to enjoy special and sustainable coffee from Indonesia at the event.From Indonesia, there are 16 companies or Indonesian coffee exporters including coffee farmer cooperatives and the Indonesian Specialty Coffee Association who will be presenting superior coffee products and holding cupping sessions (coffee tasting) for buyers every day over the three days of the exhibition.The Indonesian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Rizal Sukma said that Europe is the largest market for Indonesian coffee.`Through this collaboration, the two overseas Indonesian representatives, several ministries and the coffee association, it is hoped that there will be stronger and wider promotion of Indonesian coffee so that in the end our exports will also increase,` he said in an embassy press release. `Through coffee, we can also present the diversity of Indonesia,` he added.The embassy press release stated that the majority of countries that are the major consumers of coffee are in Europe, including the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia, Belgium, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy and Ireland.  In coffee diplomacy, stakeholders prioritize education and providing updated information to buyers about the cultivation and processing of sustainable coffee, geographical indications, increasing added value, and sustainable trade mechanisms.They also invite European buyers to meet with farmers and visit coffee plantations in Indonesia, as was recently done for buyers from Portugal. In addition to the exhibition in Dublin, Indonesian coffee is also planned to be promoted at the London Coffee Festival and the 2017 World Coffee Expo in Budapest, Hungary.

Industry Ministry promotes Indonesian specialty coffee in Europe. `We will introduce special Indonesian coffee products and diversify Indonesian coffee products to the world, especially to the European Union community,` said Director of Beverage Industry, Tobacco Products and Refreshments of the Ministry of Industry, Willem Petrus Riwu through a press release in Jakarta, Thursday.The promotional activities are organized by the Ministry of Industry, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in London, KBRI in Brussels, the Indonesian Coffee Exporters Association (GAEKI), the Indonesian Coffee Exporters and Industry Association (AEKI), The Indonesian Speciality Coffee Association (AKSI).The agenda implemented on that occasion included displaying 20 samples of specialty coffee beans from various regions in Indonesia that have passed the cupping test.In addition, presenting and cupping the 20 best green beans in the Indonesian pavilion, showcasing the culture of drinking Aceh's tarik coffee and drinking coffee leaves (Kopi Kahwa) from West Sumatra, as well as displaying the diversification of processed coffee products from 15 coffee processing industries in Indonesia. `This exhibition is a driving force for Indonesian coffee entrepreneurs to introduce products, quality and brand image and obtain various inputs or desires from customers abroad,` said Willem.In 2015, Indonesia was able to export 180 thousand tons of coffee to Europe. The participation in the international event, which was held on June 23-25, 2016, is expected to further boost the export value of Indonesian coffee in the future.Previously, Minister of Industry Saleh Husin said that his party would continue to encourage the development of the coffee industry in the country, from upstream to downstream, in order to increase the added value and competitiveness of Indonesian coffee in the international market. `These efforts are expected to have a positive impact on the value chain, increasing national economic growth, providing jobs, increasing farmers' incomes, and reducing poverty,` he said.Moreover, Saleh said, the opportunities for developing the coffee processing industry in the country are still quite large, along with the high potential for coffee consumption and world coffee demand that continues to rise. `The growth of consumption of processed coffee products in the country is increasing by an average of more than 7 percent per year. This is driven by the growth of the middle class and changes in people's lifestyles,` said the Minister of Industry. Moreover, Indonesia is the largest coffee-producing country with an average production of 685 thousand tons per year or 8.9 percent of world coffee production.

Nervous Markets Eye Vote Count in Referendum. The GBPUSD falls to 1.4289 after touching the psychological level of 1.5000, with a trading range of more than 700pips.  On the contrary, the safe haven assets gold and yen have strengthened sharply in response to the risk aversion sentiment. The USDJPY touched a near-two-year low in the range of 103.01 with a trading range of around 380pips. The price of gold increased by more than $15 compared to the closing level of the previous session, touching $1271.05 per troy ounce. Based on data from the British national media, The Guardian, the vote count from five cities has given a victory to the `Remain` camp, while three cities have supported the `Leave` camp. Based on the temporary total votes, the `Leave` option is ahead by 53% or 257.816 votes, while the `Remain` option is at 47% or 227.726 votes. Market Volatility Hits 4-Month High. The VIX Index measures the 30-day implied volatility of the S&P 500 index options and is considered a key gauge of market fear.
On Wednesday, June 22, the VIX finished up 14.6% at 21.2, the highest level since Feb. 18. The surge also breached its long-term average level of 20. Market participants saw the jump in the VIX on Wednesday — the day before the referendum — as reflecting increased anxiety and expectations for potential volatility in U.S. stocks this summer.
The nervousness among investors sent U.S. stocks sharply lower Wednesday, defying a strongly higher open and mirroring losses in European bourses. A more-than-$1 drop in the price of crude oil also weighed on energy shares and the major U.S. indexes.
The VIX last traded above 32 in August 2015, when concerns over a slowdown in China roiled markets. Risk assets such as stocks and crude oil tumbled, while safe havens like the yen and gold rallied sharply as fear gripped the market. At the time, crude oil was trading below $30 a barrel, while gold was rallying from below $1,100 an ounce.

Ahead of UK Referendum Today. The official announcement regarding whether the UK will leave (Brexit) or remain (Bremain) in the EU will only be released on Friday (24/6). However, the results of the quick count will increase market volatility and could be used as a trading opportunity.
The results of the latest telephone survey conducted by ComRes indicate that the `remain` group is at 48%, ahead of the `leave` group at 42%. At the same time, YouGov also announced similar conclusions with the `remain` group at 51% and the `leave` group at 49%.
The two results caused GBPUSD to strengthen today. However, the final results of the referendum are still uncertain due to the small margin and swing voters. The ComRes survey indicates that the number of respondents who are undecided is at 11%.
The movement of gold and the yen as safe havens will also be greatly affected by the UK referendum. If the quick count results indicate that `remain` is in the lead, gold and the yen will likely weaken, while if `leave` wins it is likely that gold and the yen will strengthen.
For the record, the UK referendum is scheduled to start today at approximately 13:00 WIB and will end at approximately 04:00 WIB on Friday, 24 June. Vote counting will be done immediately and the results for some areas are expected to be announced starting at 07:30 WIB on Friday, 24 June. The final results, following the official announcement, are expected to be available at 13:00 WIB.
