Europe Opens the Door to Biodiesel Market Access.  Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita said as much from Islamabad, Pakistan, on Friday (26/1).

`This is clearly a comprehensive victory for Indonesia that will of course swing open wide the doors of market access and reenergize export performance of biodiesel to the EU for Indonesian producers after it had previously been depressed by the imposition of anti-dumping duties on the product,` the minister said as quoted from the Ministry of Trade's official website.
 
The EU has been imposing anti-dumping duties on Indonesian biodiesel since 2013, with a dumping margin of 8.8%-23.3%.
 
Since then, exports of Indonesian biodiesel to the EU have declined.
 
According to statistics from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in the period from 2013 to 2016 Indonesian biodiesel exports to the EU declined by 42.84%, from $649 million in 2013 to $150 million in 2016.
 
The lowest value for biodiesel exports from Indonesia to the EU occurred in 2015, when they were only worth $68 million.
 
This victory has given Indonesian biodiesel exporters/producers hope.

RI-Pakistan Boost Palm Oil Trade. As reported by Antara, President Joko Widodo is convinced that his state visit to Pakistan will be a new cohesiveness to strengthen cooperation and friendship of both countries. For that, President Jokowi focuses on three main bilateral issues, namely economic cooperation, people-to-people contacts, and cooperation for Palestine.
 
President Jokowi said that the total value of trade after the implementation of the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between the two countries has increased significantly since 2013. In 2016, it reached US$ 2.10 billion or grew by approximately 8.90% per year. To continue to increase trade, President Jokowi welcomes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for Joint Trade Promotion. “I welcome the formation of a joint venture for storage and processing of palm oil in the Port of Qosim, Karachi. This cooperation will enable Pakistan to be the center of palm oil and its processed goods in South and Central Asia regions,” said the President.

Earlier, when conducting a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India in New Delhi, India, President Jokowi also conveyed the importance of increasing economic cooperation since the bilateral trade of both countries has actually started to grow from the past year but still far from its real potential. “Therefore, the effort to increase trade must continue to be done including eliminating trade barriers,” said the President.

First Tea Auction 2018: PT. KPBN Hopes Tea Sales Can Grow. The Tea Auction event was officially opened by Seger Budiarjo as the HCM & General Director of Holding Perkebunan Nusantara on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 09.30 WIB in the KPBN Head Office, Jl. Cut Meutia, Jakarta. This event was attended by the Board of Directors of Holding Perkebunan Nusantara, the Board of Commissioners of PT. KPBN, the Indonesian Tea Board, the Indonesian Tea Association, the Chair and all Members of the Jakarta Tea Buyers Association (JTBA), and tea buyer partners. In his remarks, the Acting President Director of KPBN, Iman Bimantara said that the 2018 commodity trading activities in PT. KPBN were again carried out with the opening of the Plantation product trade transaction through the implementation of Auction sales for tea commodities. He said that the tea was the result of PTPN IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, and XII with CTC and Orthodox types. Iman also added that the decrease in the CTC type was due to the fact that in 2017, there was a shift from the CTC type to Orthodox production of PTPN VI & VII. The average price recorded in 2017 for the Orthodox type for Quality I Export Avg. US$1.68/Kg, Quality I Local Avg US$1.49 while Quality I Export CTC US$1.97, and Quality I Local US$1.68 (Auction Price). `During the 2-year period of 2016 and 2017, the market absorption for commodity sales was still dominated by the Local market, namely in 2016 Local 61% and Export 39%, in 2017 Local absorption became 63% and Export 37% of the delivery realization party of tea at PT. KPBN. The export destination countries are Malaysia, UAE, the Netherlands, the USA, Poland, Pakistan, and the UK,` explained Iman. Iman Bimantara added that the growth of active buyers at the Jakarta Tea Auction in 2017 was recorded and ranked the top three as PT Trijasa Prima Intl, PT Unilever Tbk, and PT Anugerah Tetap Makmur Sentosa. Companies that participated in the 2018 First Tea Auction were CV Padakersa, Trijasa, Trigaluh, Vann Rees, AgriJaya, Intraco, Unilever, Finlay, Kinami Sarana Mandiri, Suruchi, KBP Chakra, CV Gudang Teh, Expertindo, Indoglobal Galang Pamitra, and Pucuk Mas. Commodity Prices Lift Export Performance. The head of the central statistics bureau (BPS) Suhariyanto stated that Indonesia's overall export performance this year is better compared to 2016. The main driving factor is an increase in the price of various commodities, such as coal.
 
BPS recorded Indonesia's export value as of November 2017 at US$ 15.28 billion or a 0.26% increase compared to October 2017. Cumulatively, RI's total export from January-November 2017 reached US$ 153.90 billion or a 17.75% growth (year on year).
 
Furthermore, the value of imports in November was US$ 15.15 billion or a 6.42% increase (month to month/mtm). Cumulatively, the value of imports from January-November 2017 reached US$141.88 billion or a 15.47% increase.
 
Thus, the balance of RI's trade value in November 2017 recorded a surplus of US$ 0.13 billion. In the meantime, the trade balance from January- November 2017 recorded a surplus of US$12.01 billion or larger compared to the same period the previous year at US$9.53 billion.
 
He disclosed that the growth in non-oil/gas export value in November 2017 included vegetable fats and oils at 8.04%, iron and steel at 29.97%, knitted goods at 74.70%, and footwear at 11.34%.
 
`That is why we are optimistic that exports will contribute to the economic growth in quarter IV/2017, like in quarter III/2017,` he explained.

The General Secretary of the Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association (Gapki) Togar Sitanggang said that in October the total volume of Indonesian crude palm oil exports (excluding biodiesel and oleochemicals) could only reach 2.60 million tonnes or down by 5.60% compared to the previous month. But for all palm oil sector, national exports during January-October 2017 reached 26.73 million tons. Whereas, in 2016, the total realization of crude palm oil exports was only 26.57 million tons, he said in Jakarta yesterday.
 
Throughout October 2017, the Indian and Pakistani palm oil market was weak, resulting in a decrease in Indonesian crude palm oil exports to the two countries and also led to a decrease in total Indonesian crude palm oil exports. Meanwhile, Indonesia's crude palm oil stocks until the end of October were recorded to have increased 16% from the previous month, or from 2.92 million tons in September to 3.38 million tons in October 2017.
 
The increasing domestic crude palm oil due to increased production and decreased export performance. Meanwhile, Pakistan recorded a significant decline in demand for crude palm oil from Indonesia, of 32%, or from 211,520 thousand tons in September to 144,260 thousand tons in October. The decrease is due to the active use ofcrushing plant in the country which triggered high imports of soybeans and canola, also because the price is a strong factor for Pakistan in determining the volume of crude palm oil purchases. India also follows Pakistan by recording a 16% decrease in demand, or from 650,750 thousand tons in September to 544,170 thousand tons in October.

In terms of price, throughout October 2017, global crude palm oil prices moved in the range of US $ 700-735 per metric ton (mt) with the average price of US $ 719.40 per mt.
