Import Value Mamin January to October Up 23%

JAKARTA: The value of imports of food and beverage products during January to October 2010 reached U.S. $ 169 million, an increase of approximately 23% compared with same period last year.

In the last year, imports of these products stood at U.S. $ 138 million.

Food and beverage products from Malaysia still rule the market of imported products in domestic market, with a mastery level of 17% market share. As for China and Thailand respectively ranked second and third, with respective market share of 15% and 14%.

"After the September fell, there was an increase of imports in October. But the increase is not as high as June and July. Imports in June and July, the highest this year since that time to prepare Lebaran, "said Secretary General of Association of Food and Beverage All Indonesia (Gapmmi) Frank M. Sibarani, today.

Based on that data, imports in June and July recorded the highest import rate during the first 10 months of this year. Import two months it was recorded at U.S. $ 40.9 million, respectively U.S. $ 20.8 million in June and U.S. $ 20.1 million in July.

Entering August, imports declined to $ 18.9 million and U.S. $ 15 million in September. "In October, again there is an increase to $ 18.2 million."

Viewed from the port of destination, Port of Tanjung Priok become the largest entrance for food and beverage products. As many as 81% of the total value of imports of food and beverage products during January to October in through the port, followed by Tanjung Perak (13%), and Belawan (4.54%).

The type of food and beverage products that enter the country including sauces and preparations therefor, mixed condiments and flavoring mixture, coarse mustard flour and prepared mustard, other than soy sauce, ketchup, mustard powder, chili sauce, seasoning mix / seasoning and fish sauce.

These foods are listed at most into the domestic market between different types of food and other imports. The total import value for the type it reached U.S. $ 13.8 million, or approximately 8.15% of total import value.
