January, The Indonesia-Malaysia Joint CPO Discuss Action

PURWOKERTO - MICOM: Indonesia and Malaysia will prepare a joint action to confront discrimination by the European Union on trade in crude palm oil (CPO) to the meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO).


As a preparation, Indonesia will hold bilateral meetings in advance so that one voice in the fight for Europe's discriminatory treatment of palm oil trade by both countries. Director General of Processing and Marketing of Agricultural Products (P2HP) Zaenal Bachruddin Ministry of Agriculture said that Indonesia is committed to invite Malaysia to perform the action.

 

"We hope that Indonesia and Malaysia one voice to bring issues of discrimination CPO by the European trade to the WTO. As a preparation, Indonesia and Malaysia will conduct a bilateral meeting in January next. There will be discussions with Indonesia and Malaysia that could one vote. Because we is a manufacturer which produces 80 percent of world palm oil demand, "said Zaenal on the sidelines of a speaker in a seminar at the Faculty of Animal Science University General Soedirman Purwokerto (Unsoed), Purwokerto, Central Java, on Saturday (11/12).

 

Step Indonesia and Malaysia came after the European Union (EU) issued a policy of the EU Directive. Vegetable oils from palm oil as biodiesel fuel to be assessed under greenhouse emission standards set out in EU Directive. The policy will make the CPO can not be used as renewable fuel in Europe.

 

At the same time, said Zaenal, Indonesia will also conduct a campaign that Indonesian CPO products are environmentally friendly. "Some time ago, has implemented environmentally friendly palm oil campaigns in Europe, namely in Brussels. In essence, Indonesia wants to ensure that Indonesia's CPO production is environment-friendly commodities," he said.
