Competitiveness of Indonesian Products Still Weak

JAKARTA: Indonesian product competitiveness in global trade is still considered low, so that needs to be improved so that Indonesia can take advantage of opportunities in each joint free trade that followed.

Special Staff of the Minister of Planning / Bappenas Dedi Maskyur Riyad said free trade is actually a huge opportunity that could benefit Indonesia when supported by national products are competitive both in quality and price.

"Unpreparedness Indonesia is currently located on the competitiveness that has not been strong when dealing with products from other countries in the international market," he said in Jakarta Tuesday.

To improve the competitiveness of domestic products, added, Indonesia must improve the quality of production of the domestic industrial sector.

According to him, the low competitiveness of Indonesian products because of the government and the private sector is less keen in working on value-added natural resources owned by Indonesia.

"Indonesia's exports are still dominated by raw materials. This eventually will only be used by other countries by taking the value added through processing," he said.
